Bismillah and toilet etiquette in a combined bathroom

Question

When making wudu in the bathroom, do you say Bismillah aloud or in your heart? When stepping out of the toilet into the bathroom in an all-in-one washroom without separation, when do you say the dua for leaving the toilet? Given that a hat and slippers should be worn when using the toilet, what do you do when bathing next to the toilet in the same all-in-one area?

Answer

Wa alikumus salaam. You will say Bismillah quietly or within the heart. The duʿa after leaving the toilet in a combined bathroom will be recited after completing one's need and moving away from the toilet area, even if one has not exited the entire room. Wearing slippers or covering the head in the toilet is from adab (recommended acts), not an obligation. Therefore, during ghusl it is permissible to remove these items, since one is no longer engaged in relieving oneself.
