**1. Can a non-scholar validly lead the congregation, even when a more qualified person is present?** Yes. Imam al-Kasani: "As for the leadership of the less virtuous (al-mafdul), it is permissible according to us." (Bada'i al-San'i, 1/157). Imam al-Marghinani: "The imamah of the less qualified is valid even when someone more qualified is present, though it is disliked." (Al-Hidayah, 1/83). This is confirmed by al-Haskafi (Al-Durr al-Mukhtar, 1/559) and Ibn 'Abideen (Radd al-Muhtar, 1/559) as valid without disagreement, though disliked.

**2. What about recitation errors?** The Hanafi jurists distinguish minor from major errors. Al-Haskafi: "The prayer is not invalidated by a recitation error if it does not change the meaning."
