Does wearing a Qur'anic ta'weez conflict with reliance (tawakkul) on Allah

It does not affect one's faith or tawakkul in Allah unless one believes the ta'weez possesses independent power to ward off harm, apart from the will and act of Allah. Allah created a world of apparent cause and effect -- physical (fire burning, water wetting), mental (patience strengthening resilience), and spiritual (reciting the three Quls and blowing over oneself before sleep, as established in the Sunnah) -- and we are encouraged to employ the normative means to the normative ends. It is a theological error to believe in the inherent, independent ability of the means themselves, apart from Allah's will -- the ta'weez is no different in this regard than hiring a security guard or carrying a weapon for physical protection, neither of which impugns one's reliance on Allah, provided the conditions for a valid ta'weez are met.
