Answer

**Q: Is smoking permitted whilst fasting?** A: Not permissible for cigarettes, cigars, hookah, or similar; it results in qadha and kaffarah becoming due.

**Q: Can a smoker use a nicotine patch while fasting?** A: Yes, this will not break the fast.

**Q: Is the use of e-cigarettes/vapes permitted whilst fasting?** A: Same ruling as smoking cigarettes — breaks the fast, and kaffarah is due.

**Q: Is my fast valid if I forgot I was fasting and ate?** A: If unaware one was fasting, the fast is not broken regardless of what was consumed.

**Q: By mistake, I swallowed water while doing wudhu — what happens?** A: This breaks the fast; only qadha is necessary, not kaffarah. (The difference between a mistake and forgetfulness is awareness of the fast at the time.)

**Q: If one vomits, does it break the fast?** A: Normal vomiting does not; only induced vomiting of more than a mouthful breaks the fast.

**Q: What is the ruling for using suppositories while fasting?** A: Insertion in the rear passage invalidates the fast.
