Keeping the eyes open or closed during salah

In Islam, during salah, is it better for a person to keep his eyes open or closed? What is the correct practice according to the Sunnah?

Answer

The Sunnah is to keep the eyes open during the prayer. It is makruh (legally discouraged) to keep the eyes closed if there is no need. However, if one can only concentrate, or concentrate significantly better, with eyes closed, one may keep them closed in such circumstances.
