Meaning of the Qur'anic verses on creation in pairs

They may be referring to two different verses. One interpretation of Surah al-Rum, verse 21, is that Allah has preordained everyone's spouse pre-eternally, before anything was even created -- *"And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from yourselves..."* As for Surah al-Dhariyat, verse 49, it refers to the fact that Allah has created everything in pairs: sky and earth, night and day, sun and moon, land and sea, light and darkness, iman and kufr, death and life, misery and happiness, Jannah and Jahannam, health and illness, wealth and poverty, joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, etc. -- *"And of everything We have created pairs, so that you may take heed."* According to the majority of the mufassirun, verse 49 also means generally that Allah created the human being in two types: male and female. *And Allah knows best.*
