Is it true that if we pray in a room with pictures of people's faces (photograph or drawing) or toys with faces on display, our prayer isn't accepted?

Yes, this should be avoided, as the sculpted or depicted image represents the likeness of an ensouled creature, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited.
