Scholarly evidence permitting Quranic taweez
Question
What ahadith or prophetic traditions allow taweez that contain Qur'an, given that many people place their faith and tawakkul in the taweez itself rather than in Allah?

Answer
Companions like 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-As were known to write Qur'anic verses for their children to wear (reported by Abu Dawud). Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, and scholars from the Hanbali and some Maliki schools allowed it if it's from the Qur'an.
Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah, a major Hanafi reference, states: "There is no harm in hanging a taweez if it is from the Qur'an or the names of Allah. But if it is from other than the Qur'an or from unknown writings, it is makruh (disliked), and in some cases haram." (Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah, 5/356)
