Question

When you're giving da'wah, can you shake hands with the opposite gender if it is out of formality and respect?

Answer

No. If skin-to-skin contact is made, this is a major sin. If there is a barrier, like gloves, it is less severe but still something that must be avoided. As for giving da'wah, we are obligated to invite people to Islam as it is -- what benefit is there in distorting the very teachings we are calling people to in the name of calling to it?
